Michael is a master educator with 49 years of teaching experience. He founded Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy in 1985 after many years of deep yoga practice and work in the areas of personal growth and transformation. Michael is the author of two books Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy—Bridge from Body to Soul and Turn Stress Into Bliss. He is also a contributing author to the American Psychological Association published book Beyond Talk therapy: Using movement and expressive techniques in clinical practice. This June Michael was a keynote speaker at SYTAR for the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He has led workshops and training programs and presented at conferences worldwide for the past thirty years.

In Quest of Meaning | Yoga, the Buddha, and Neuroscience

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves._ - Buddha We all want to be fulfilled and do something with meaning. We all search for the life that will make us happy. As a recent Stanford Research project concluded: "The quest for meaning is a key part of what makes us human." Additional findings indicate that when an individual experiences meaningfulness they will more easily adapt to stress, more effectively set and attain life goals, experience less anxiety, and experience better physical health and general well-being. So how do we find that? In this workshop, you will learn how your yoga practice can support you in creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life when the practice includes certain important elements. Michael will lead a yoga class experience bringing together embodied mindful awareness and the teachings of the Buddha while referencing neuroscience research. You will explore the evolution of yoga from the vedas to the Buddha and to modern psychology and neuroscience. What you learn here will be an introduction to body-mind approaches to yoga therapy that can support you in attaining and maintaining your everyday dharma as a complement to other approaches. You will find the teachings easy to apply to your everyday life.

Turn Stress Into Bliss | Yoga for Connection and Awareness

Your awareness and connection to your truth is greatly enhanced if you learn how to listen to it_ _ Michael Lee How well do you connect to yourself through your body? Do you listen to its wisdom and learn from it? How can embodied awareness through yoga inform your life, the choices you make, and help create the bliss you desire? So often we run from our uncomfortable sensations and feelings, never allowing them to teach us. Yet, if we engage them, they can take us somewhere new, often into deeper levels of awareness. Through led experiences and a unique verbal integration process, this workshop teaches you how to listen to the body and tap into its wisdom supporting the process of deeper awareness on a multitude of levels. All of the practices taught will transfer and support your learning from your mat to your daily life, enhancing deeper awareness and connection to self.

_When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky__ Buddha Creating the life you want is not impossible, but it does require your participation. Most of the time, we simply accept what is happening instead of being aware of and choosing what we want. This workshop steps into this circular process as you explore easy-to-follow mind-body practices, and begin to build an actionable plan that suits your life. Everything you learn can be implemented into your daily life and further refined, allowing you the opportunity to live according to your truth. Whether you want to change things, accept things, or grow into your most amazing self, all that is required is presence, awareness, acceptance and courage.

Through a yoga and mindfulness-based process, this workshop will guide you in engaging your body and using the unique Phoenix Rising integration process as tools for enhancing your awareness and gaining clarity in your choices. Whether facing issues in health, work, relationships, identity, purpose or any other change in your life, the techniques you will learn are both simple and profound, giving you effective and adaptive strategies to better tune in to your body and better allow your body to inform your life.
