Recently separated herself, she is trying to abide by these ethics as she leaves her old life behind and forges a new one on her own. As a former freelance writer and editor for magazines, Marcy will ask you to think, journal, articulate your emotions, and above all, practice ahimsa as we explore this personal topic. Marcy is the Education Coordinator at Bliss Ann Green Yoga in Barrie, and the owner of Calm Centre for Yoga and Meditation in Innisfil, Ontario.

Yoga and Divorce: How the Yamas and Niyamas Will Get You Through the Trickiest Days of Your Life

Marcy Barbaro - TH6BAR

We all know how healing it can be to get on the mat, turn inward, and move our bodies during difficult times. It’s off the mat, however, that we can get into trouble; lashing out at others, judging quickly, and believing the pain we are in will be ever-lasting. The end of a trusted relationship, such as a marriage separation or divorce, often leaves us bewildered, insecure, rejected, and nervous about the future. Luckily, there is help in yoga. The Yamas and Niyamas are set of guides built into our Eight-limbed Yogic Path, that when followed, can help us manage this difficult time with dignity and respect for others and the self. In this lecture and workshop, we will begin with an overview of the concepts that make up these yoga ethics, and then look at how they can be applied practically. Be prepared to journal, to share, and to be honest with yourself about how you could do better as you handle this time of massive change.
