Faculty - Tama Soble

Tama Soble began practising yoga with Esther Myers and Monica Voss in 1984, and was trained to teach by them. She has also studied with Donna Farhi, Judith Hanson Lasater, Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, Peter Blackaby, Thich Nhat Hanh and Edward Espe Brown. Tama teaches classes, teacher training, advanced teacher seminars, and offers retreats in Ontario and internationally. She co-owns and directs Esther Myers Yoga Studio and its 750-hour Teacher Training and 250-hour Graduate Teachers' Programmes with Monica Voss.

Yoga for Anxiety and Depression

Spend a day exploring how asana, pranayama and meditation practices support the physical body, the nervous and respiratory systems, and the mind in returning to homeostasis. We will practise, write, and discuss in order to reflect on how we as teachers might support those living with the challenges of anxiety and depression. For yoga and meditation teachers, teachers in training, and anyone studying and/or working in the mental health arena.

For many individuals, stress and anxiety are all too familiar experiences. We want to shed the tension that draws us into the pattern of anxious response, but it is difficult. Learn asana, pranayama and meditation practices that assist in guiding the body back toward relaxation and ease. Understand the connection between physical stability, breathing, and the quieting of the nervous system. Reconnect to the natural healing mechanisms in the body.

Learn simple, enjoyable techniques that can help you deal with stress at school, home, work and in social situations. We will explore yoga postures and breathing and meditation techniques. No previous yoga experience is required.
