Faculty - Hugh Peacock

Hugh has been teaching yoga of awareness since 2004 in the Innerquest tradition of Maureen Daigle, a Kripalu and Phoenix Rising graduate. He has been drawn to the Sanskrit language for several reasons: Its syllabic potential to set up a resonance of interiority, a pathway to inner awareness; The universality of the names of postures wherever one goes to practice; Access to the great sources of yoga thought and teaching, especially the Gita (long a) and its enormous influence on Western thought and literature, and his enjoyment and appreciation of kirtan (chant and response).

Hugh Peacock - SU3PEA

Join Hugh in an introduction to the alphabet of the saṃskṛita varṇa mālā (the garland of sounds), voicing the Sanskrit names of the commonly known āsana (first ‘a’ is long) during practice; writing the devanāgarī, the script of Sanskrit, an approach to cultivating concentration (ḍhāraṇā). We will review the Eightfold Disciplines of Yoga (aṣṭāṅga) and list accessible sources of further study and practice. Experience the unique energy of the invocational language of kirtan (chant and response). Bring the resonance of Sanskrit into your practice and open your practice to the energy of the "mother" of sound (mātricā). Minimal note-taking required.
