Faculty - Rodney Yee

Rodney co-founded Piedmont Yoga Studio in Oakland, California, in 1987, and is the creator of dozens of yoga DVDs through Gaiam. He is the author of Yoga: The Poetry of the Body and Moving Toward Balance.
Together, Rodney and Colleen created and are featured the new GaiamTV Yoga Foundations course. They are co-owners of Yoga Shanti New York City, and are Co-Executive Directors of Donna Karan's Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program. They teach workshop, retreats, and teacher trainings worldwide, and maintain public teaching schedules at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor and New York City.

We build our confidence, our strength, and our equilibrium by working on these specific group of poses. They are tricky and challenging and require specific knowledge and preparation. Once they are taught and learned well, they deliver so much fun and so many benefits. Because of the nature of public classes they are often taught haphazardly or avoided all together. Let’s keep these valuable poses in our repertoire by understanding the progression of mastering them

What is this class? Colleen and Rodney have designed these classes to offer a vigorous practice that is sequenced with purpose and health in mind. A sweaty practice is followed by appropriate Restorative poses, pranayama and meditation. This overall balanced class incorporates both Western and Eastern perspectives of health and wellness. Come and feel good through and through. All levels will be catered to.

Twist, Twists, and Untwist

Yoga asanas that involve twisting the body are vital to the practise and to the health and wellness of ourselves. Learn how to twist from your toes to the crown of your head and learn how to maximize your twists through superior sequencing and subtle instruction. Then understand how to return to greater symmetry by using the right symmetrical poses to cool down and prepare for a significant savasana.

Yoga Remedies for Natural Healing

What aspects of the Yoga practise are most conducive for helping the mind-body to balance and heal? Deep relaxation with the mind sitting in the present moment gives allows for the body to utilize all of it’s energy to heal. It is the nature of the mind-body to heal so most of the time we need to get out of the way, conserve energy and let it work it’s own magic. Specific yoga practises optimize circulation, easy breathing and mindfulness. Come practise with us and learn some wonderful yoga sequences and concepts to revitalize your health and wellness.
