Faculty - Melanie (Madhuri) Phillips

Madhuri is an internationally known Yoga teacher (E-RYT), certified Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist (CAS) and Pancha Karma Specialist (PKS), receiving certification from the California College of Ayurveda and the Bihar School of Yoga, India as well as advanced study with Dr. Vasant Lad. Madhuri is a certified Bio-Energy Practitioner, a head faculty member of the Langara College Yoga Teacher Training and Advanced Yoga Teacher Training. She is a radio host for Drishti Point Yoga Radio and the co-organizer of the Vancouver Ayurveda Meet-Up Group. Her Ayurvedic practice is located at the Chopra Yoga Centre, Vancouver. Madhuri has released a popular Ayurvedic Yoga DVD that inspires the union of these two sister sciences and is currently co-authoring her first book to empower and inspire women to learn how to heal themselves through Yoga and Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic Marma Magic

Explore basic theory and methodology of this ancient healing science. Using trigger points / Ayurvedic marma points, understand how to heal and bring balance to the mind and body. Melanie will guide you through a hands-on sequence of both giving and receiving so you can personally experience the simplicity and power of the marma treatment. She will show you how to enhance the treatment using gemstones, colour, and specific oils. You will take home the knowledge of some points that can be used for self-healing for headache, digestive issues, anxiety, and more. Please wear comfortable clothes, come with trimmed fingernails and avoid wearing scents or perfumes. This is an interactive, hands-on workshop.

Ayurvedic Yoga & Nutrition for Spring

Spring is here! It’s the perfect time to re-energize and clear away stagnation and toxins that have accumulated over the winter. Melanie will share Ayurvedic wisdom (the sister science to yoga) in relation to your Yoga practice, foods, tastes, self-care, aromatherapy, and colours. These recommendations will keep you balanced during the Spring. She will guide you through a kapha-pacifying (earth and water dosha) asana, pranayama, and meditation practice designed to invigorate, ignite, and harmonize your being during this season. This workshop is both practical and experiential, please bring a notebook and wear comfortable clothes.

Ayurveda Yoga Practice for Rewiring the Nervous System

In Ayurveda, vata dosha (air + ether) is the culprit for many imbalances in the body and mind (insomnia, constipation, anxiety). Learn what you need to do to calm and ground the nervous system and redirect prana, or life force, for a balanced and nourishing yoga class. This session offers both discussion and practice. Join Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist, Yoga teacher trainer, author, and energy healer Melanie Phillips, for an evening of learning how to harness your prana (energy) for physical, mental, and spiritual protection. Learn and experience powerful practices to expand your bio-field (energy field), increase your vitality, and balance your nervous system. Develop a presence that is reflective of your highest self, as opposed to one that expresses your insecurities. Understand how you are allowing people to suck your energy and vitality, and how to reclaim it.
